The discovery of DNA is one of the most significant milestones in the history of science. This breakthrough has transformed our understanding of genetics and heredity, fundamentally changing how we view life itself. The journey of DNA's discovery is filled with remarkable events and influential figures, depicting a narrative of curiosity, collaboration, and groundbreaking science.

The Early Theories of Heredity

Before DNA was discovered, scientists grappled with understanding heredity. In the 19th century, Gregor Mendel, often referred to as the father of genetics, conducted experiments with pea plants. Mendel’s meticulous work established fundamental principles of inheritance, known today as Mendelian genetics, specifically focusing on dominant and recessive traits. His experiments showed that traits like pea color and seed shape followed specific patterns.

Despite the significance of his discoveries, Mendel's work remained largely unrecognized until the early 1900s, decades after his death. It wasn't until 1900 that researchers such as Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns, and Erich von Tschermak rediscovered Mendel's papers, which resurrected interest in genetic research.

The Discovery of Nucleic Acids

The late 1800s marked the initial exploration of nucleic acids. In 1869, Swiss chemist Friedrich Miescher discovered "nuclein" in white blood cell nuclei. He initially believed this substance was vital for cellular structure rather than genetics. It was later identified as DNA, but its role in heredity was not recognized at the time.

Miescher's work laid the groundwork for future discoveries. It led scientists in the following decades, including Phoebus Levene, to investigate the chemical components of nucleic acids. Levene identified that DNA consisted of nucleotides, but he mistook its structure, suggesting it was a repetitive simple structure rather than the complex molecule it is.

The Race to Unravel the Structure of DNA

The 20th century ignited a scientific race to uncover DNA's structure. In the early 1950s, British scientists James Watson and Francis Crick worked at the University of Cambridge, intent on solving DNA’s structural mystery. Their research was greatly informed by Rosalind Franklin's X-ray diffraction images showcasing DNA's helical structure. Her famous Photo 51 provided crucial clues that Watson and Crick later used.

In 1953, Watson and Crick published their model of DNA as a double helix, describing how the structure allowed for the storage and transmission of genetic information. Their groundbreaking work changed the scientific landscape and inspired further research into genetics.

The Impact of the DNA Discovery

The implications of discovering DNA's structure were immense. It opened new doors in molecular biology, allowing scientists to understand genetic replication, mutation, and expression better. For instance, understanding how DNA replicates underpinned advancements in techniques like polymerase chain reaction (PCR), a method used in everything from crime scene investigations to disease diagnosis.

Moreover, the Human Genome Project, launched in 1990, aimed to map all 3 billion base pairs in human DNA. Completed in 2003, it identified numerous genes responsible for genetic disorders, leading to targeted therapies and informed decisions about diseases affecting around 1 in 10 Americans. Research in genetics now surpasses $20 billion annually, reflecting its critical role in health and science.

Ethical Considerations and Future Directions

The discovery of DNA also raises important ethical questions. The power to manipulate genetic material has sparked debates about genetic engineering, cloning, and the implications of so-called designer babies. For instance, the possibility of selecting certain traits in offspring raises concerns about equity and access to genetic technologies.

Looking ahead, the future of DNA research is filled with potential. Advances in gene editing technologies, such as CRISPR, have revolutionized our understanding and capabilities. In 2020 alone, CRISPR technology received widespread attention for its ability to edit genes with precision, creating possibilities for curing genetic disorders.

However, with such power comes responsibility. It remains vital to navigate these advancements thoughtfully, ensuring ethical guidelines and regulations keep pace with scientific progress.

The Legacy of DNA Research

The journey toward understanding DNA is a testament to human curiosity and perseverance. From early theories of heredity to Watson and Crick's double helix, DNA's story is filled with intrigue and innovation. As the scientific community continues to unravel the secrets of DNA, it is crucial to maintain a mindfulness of the ethical considerations we face.

The discovery of DNA has not only transformed our understanding of life but has also opened up new frontiers in science and medicine. As we look to the future, the possibilities seem limitless, and the journey certainly is far from over.

The narrative of DNA highlights the collaborative nature of science, built on the contributions of many brilliant minds. It inspires us to keep asking questions, explore the unknown, and push the boundaries of our knowledge about life itself.

Mind, Medicines, Money and Mankind is what 'matters the most' in daily life...this is known since thousands of years. Research into 10,000+ years old written human history shows that a few prominent divisions of medicine have evolved as INTELLIGENCE evolved. It also shows, what were the purpose and practices that made them unique in those times and what made the change. We then have to decide what matters us the most to become the best version of who we are? Once you REALIZE that one needs a beautiful MIND to achieve all of this, this research masterpiece will show you HOW TO? And you will laugh and laugh and laugh upon finding out what deepest secrets of 'established' science can discover about what makes our individual SELF, SPECIALITY and SPIRITS that in turn creates our CHOICES, CREDIBILITY and CULTURE in the society we strive to succeed in.

Evolution of Mind and Medicines:

· Yoga (‘mind’ medicine, became popular after around 5100 BCE and the starting point of the problem was presumed to be bad habits. Actually, Yoga {union} began around 13.8 billion years ago, with the 'BIG BANG' and it is Yoga of atoms, that created this universe, including life, humans and all around us. The treatment theme in Yogic medicine had been to practice 'TECHNIQUES' to FORGET Fear {bad habits create fear}, focus on one’s ‘highest SELF’ and to express ultimate happiness by following one’s inner energies for the pursuit in one's purpose of living).

· Ayurveda (‘vitality’ medicine, became popular after around 500 BCE and starting point of the problem was presumed to be the bad habitats. The treatment theme is aimed at 'TIMING' practices for inner and external cleansing with restoring and revitalization of body balance),

· Siddha (‘equilibrium’ medicine, became popular after around 400 CE, and the starting point of problems was presumed to be the environmental stress. The treatment theme is aimed at 'TRASHING' troublesome body elements, replenishment of body minerals and restore the balance of body systems),

· Homeopathy (‘dilution’ medicine began after around 1800 AD and the starting point of the problem was thought to be the pollution of the body. The motto was to 'TITRATING' body elements to dilute the pollutants until immunity develops. It follows the principle of ‘likes cure likes’).

· Allopathy (‘heroic’ or ‘western’ medicine as described by the 19th-century Homeopaths, began after around 1900 AD and the starting point of the problem was thought to be the four ‘humour enemies’ of the body followed by the systemic imbalance created by them. The earliest treatment theme had been 'TREATING' symptoms and signs to create opposite symptoms by harsh treatment methods without having to find and treat the underlying cause assuming that 'opposites treat opposites'. According to many, most of us still do not understand the ‘true nature of our existence’, ‘conciousness’, or ‘exact micro-molecular basis’ of many of our ideas, dreams, desires, skills, pursuits, habits, wisdom or ailments.

Billions of people are looking for solutions to their daily problems by explorations around them but realistically, problems or passions, sadness or happiness, hurting or healing originate and resolve from within. So should we look inside or around us?

Latest CBO data* shows, US spends approximately $742 billion dollars on Safety (Military) and about 4 times more on Survival (Healthcare) the highest expense than any other country in the world. 1 in 5 people suffer from some type of mental health problems while 1 in 88 kids get Autism because most still don't know how to preserve, protect and polish their own genes, that they have been gifted clean by their ancestors. Thus the problem begins...

The healthcare crisis across many parts of the world is worsening with the increased piling of patients, deadly diseases, dependance on more medications with obvious side-effects, premature deaths, dwindling doctors, climbing costs, crippling economies and reducing resources. Just laughing or crying about them is not going to solve the issues but by exploring and understanding the origin of populations, problems &/or passions could possibly give us some answers. This is exactly what happened in this story. Read through the end of book to find out what history and geography teaches us about humans, health, healing and humanity. Enjoy the journey into self-exploration and all the best in search of your happiness, that dwells within !!
